2008 Muttathu Varkey Literary Award

Famous Malayalam Story Writer Mr. M. Sukumaran has won this year's Muttathu Varkey Award, the highest award given for Malayalam Literature. It was constituted by Muttathu Varkey's fans, friends, and relatives.  The winner was selected by popular opinion voting system and then prominent judges' final decision.

 

Announcing this at a news conference, Muttathu Varkey foundation Managing Trusty Prof. T.M. Sebastian, Chairman M K Madhavan Nair and Secretary Dr. Mathew J Muttathu said the award, consisting of a cash prize of Rs 33,333, memento and citation would be presented at a function on May 28, the 18th death anniversary of Muttathu Varkey.

This is the 17th Muttathu Varkey Award for literature. Those who bagged the award earlier include, O. V. Vijayan, Vaikom Mohammed Basheer, M. T. Vasudevan Nair, Kovilan, Kakkanadan, VKN, Mukundan, Punathil Kunhabdulla, Anand, N. P. Mohammed, K. J. Baby, Sethu, C. Radhakrishnan, Zacharia, Kamala Suryayya and T. Padmanabhan. At the primary level, 250 select readers are asked to express their preferences. From among the majority ranked authors, a short list of five will be prepared by the Muttathu Varkey Foundation. An award committee will select the finalist from among the five short listed. 

Mr. M Amal, final year degree,Government  Raja Ravivarma Fine Arts College Mavelikkara has been selected for the prestigious 'Muttathu Varkey Kalalaya Award' for college students. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 5000.00, citation and memento.
